Teen Times are exponentially important to our community because they encourage teens to be teens. Many teens with disabilities are looked at as different and don't have as many friendships with other teens their age. Within Teen Times we provide a safe space for ALL teens to be teens, a place where everyone will be accepted and will be able to attain social skills while having a fun time.

I am a member of the Teen Time committee, we organize these events that teens with disabilities count on to be able to have fun with teens their age and be treated as the equals they are. I have seen an impact on these teens first hand because they finally got to act like the teens they are by interacting with others their own age. This isn't always possible for teens with disabilities and that's why it is so important that we have teen times. In the past, we have done cooking, talent, and cultural teen times. Teens that attend these teen times learn important life skills in fun ways. For example. by learning how to cook we can gain a healthy diet and the ability to make a meal for ourselves. This coming year we plan to address the importance of dental hygiene which is so important to a healthy lifestyle while at the same time planning interactive activities that actively engage every participant.
